本書的主題主要是關於19世紀葡萄牙人在香港和中國大陸的生活。通過12章的篇幅，本書作者何塞·佩德羅·布拉加（José Pedro Braga）分別闡述了葡萄牙和中國在早期的良好關係、荷蘭人和英國人的相繼到來、香港早期的發展以及葡萄牙語的記錄、崛起以及香港的葡萄牙社區的形成。通過這些討論，我們可以清楚地了解海外葡萄牙人的居住歷史，尤其是其在香港和中國大陸的生活史。

The subject of this book is mainly about the lives of Portuguese in Hong Kong and China in the 19th century. With a length of twelve chapters, José Pedro Braga, the author of this book, has respectively elaborated the good relations between Portugal and China in the early times, the arrival of Dutch and English, early Hong Kong and the records of Portuguese, the rise of Hong Kong and the formation of the Portuguese community in Hong Kong. Through these discussion, we could get a clear look at the living history of the Portuguese overseas especially in Hong Kong and China.
