The subject of this book is mainly about the lives of Portuguese in Hong Kong and China in the 19th century. With a length of twelve chapters, José Pedro Braga, the author of this book, has respectively elaborated the good relations between Portugal and China in the early times, the arrival of Dutch and English, early Hong Kong and the records of Portuguese, the rise of Hong Kong and the formation of the Portuguese community in Hong Kong. Through these discussion, we could get a clear look at the living history of the Portuguese overseas especially in Hong Kong and China.
